I was so honored to meet this amazing woman! Anita has quite the life story to share and she is such a kind and amazing human being. I can't begin to recall all of her accomplishments that she shared with me during her session so I kindly ask her to send me a BIO so that I could document all of her amazing life experiences. Anita choose a life of SERVICE to others. Here is her story:
COLONEL Anita A. White, United States Army (Retired)
I served in the United States Army, as a Logistics Management Officer and retired as a decorated Combat Support Officer with a Bronze Star after 30 years of service specializing in leadership, munitions management, technology, and logistics. I also retired from the Federal Government’s General Service as a Senior Logistician.
I am a lifelong learner. After graduating with honors from Tunstall High School, I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from The University of Virginia and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. I have earned a Master of Arts degree in Management from Webster University, a Bachelor of Science degree with honors in Social Work from Longwood University and in 2023 a Master of Science degree in Social Work with concentrations in clinical and school social work from Virginia Commonwealth University. I have professional certificates in non-profit management, procurements and contracts management, and school social work.
I am a public servant to my church, sorority, and community organizations. I am currently the Sunday School Superintendent at High School Baptist Church, Danville Virginia. The church is 158 years old and hosted Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. during the Civil Rights Movement.
I am a Diamond Life member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. I have served in various chapters holding leadership positions, I am very passionate about serving as the Social Action Committee Chair. During my tenure as the chair in Prince William County Alumnae Chapter, my committee and chapter were awarded the 51st National Convention Distinguished Program Award for supporting the implementation of the Healthcare Marketplace initiative in Prince William County. I recently served on the Grand Chapter’s Production Team during the 60th Anniversary of the March on Washington.
I became a member of the Danville Chapter of The Links, Incorporated in 2018. My service accomplishments in this organization have been working on projects within the International Awareness and Involvement Facet and as the Chapter’s Recording Secretary. I worked with the Chapter’s middle school female mentees by introducing them to the editor of SESI magazine made by and for the Black girls’ mainstream. The mentees presented their antibullying campaign and interviewed the editor during the workshop.
I have served on community service boards, such as the YMCA of Danville, Virginia as a Board member, the Southern Area Agency on Aging Chairperson, the Project Literacy Board Vice Chairperson, and the Luncheon Pilot Club of Danville’s President. During my tenure, I organized and presented two Family Caregiver Workshops to the communities of Danville, Martinsville, and Halifax. I have lifetime memberships in the American Legion (Post 29), the NAACP (Silver Life), and the Girl Scouts of America.
My service as a Chief Election Officer began in 1996 in Northern Virginia and expanded to precincts, both national and international. I was a Virginia elector in the 2012 Electoral College to elect President Obama and Vice President Biden. My recent appointment has been to the Pittsylvania County Electoral Board and voted in as the Chair of the Board. These positions provide me the opportunity to continue my focus on civic equity, inclusion, and diversity.
I am a world traveler. I have traveled due to my military career and inquisitiveness to explore the world. I have lived in and visited the following countries and islands, such as, Korea, Germany, Saudia Arabia, Jordan, Bosnia, England, Austria, Thailand, Ghana, Bahrain, France, Qatar, Doha, Italy, Greece, Bahamas, Kuwait, Mexico, Iraq, Japan, and the Virgin Islands.
I am a resolute caregiver for my 93-year-old father and 4-year-old great nephew. I care for two fur babies, a Golden Doodle named Lily and a Cane Corso named Blake.
I want to be thought of and remembered as a child of God, an intercessor, one who rejoiced in hope, endured in affliction, and persevered in prayer. (Romans 12:12)
